When she hung up the phone with me she was in high spirits. Brennan is an alright guy but he and Shalimar have an almost parasitic relationship, and no one will ever be #1 in their life but each other.

I'm not a happily ever after, gets the girl and has the picket fence kind of guy. I'm not even a long term relationship type of guy. Outside of this weird situation with the City, Shalimar and I never would have had this type of relationship.
But you? You're not that way, I can tell. You want someone to spend forever with. Brennan? He wants Shalimar to spend forever with and you will always, always be second place to her.
[A pause.]
And personally I think you deserve more than that.

I don't know what this is, I'm not even sure why I started it, but I do know that when I'm with him - part of that gaping hole in me gets a little smaller and a little easier to deal with.
