[As an answer, an enthusiastic red-head dashes from the kitchen area and wraps her arms around her friend.]

[Kurt, friendly and affectionate as always, hugs back tightly with a grin on his face. It's been a while since he's seen her, too, even given the timing problems.]

Of course! Who else could mimic my charm and dashing good looks?

A shape-shifter, a Skrull, an illusionist, some other random person here in the city... Did you know there's a guy here who looks just like Jamie Madrox, but he's not even related? Different world entirely.

[She's teasing and babbling, she knows it, but as she pulls Kurt into the cabin she doesn't care. Right now, she's having the best day she's had in awhile.]

[And now he's looking curiously around the cabin, tail swinging merrily.]

Not mine, Logan's. Apparently he was here and lived in this cabin, well as you can see it's more like a house, but it's in the woods so - cabin. Anyway, he left the City. Came back to the City - without his memories from before - and kinda moved back in.

[She crosses back to the kitchen and stirs the sauce on the stove.]

Or...he moved back in when I got here so I wouldn't have to be alone. I'm not sure what he was doing before that.

This all sounds a bit baffling.

[Then again, he doesn't have to think around it too much to simply understand that some odd things happen sometimes.]

It's quite rustic. I like it.

Now... You mentioned my helping with dinner.

[The fridge opens and a number of vegetables and salad-type things float out onto a counter.]

You're on salad. Cutting board's in the cabinet underneath - knives are in the block here by the stove.

[Kurt smiles and finds a good knife before she decides to levitate those, too. Yikes.]

[Finding the cutting board annnd. Wash, wash, chop, chop.]

[She adds the pasta to the water, figuring it should be about ready to go by the time the salads are assembled. She remembers to add enough for Logan if he shows, or for leftovers if he doesn't.]

[There's a short pause in both his thinking and his chopping, but then he resumes. He's trying to be careful with wording.]

I made to quit the X-men, actually, and go and find myself again. Events in Winzeldorf allowed me to reconsider, however.

[She stirs the sauce again, thinking.]

...Sounds familiar. I tried, I was trying, I AM trying to go to college - God Kurt, I haven't even told any of you that I'm back yet...and by the time I do...

[He gives her a look of fond reassurance over his shoulder. It's odd to hear her talking from another time, but that way always something of the trick with Rachel.]

It is fine. I was certainly pleased to see you again. We were on the same team for quite some time, and I hope you were happy with it all just as I hope you are happy now.

[She's quiet for a minute because honestly? She has no idea how to answer that. Not really. But when midnight comes around, he might be gone and she's not going to waste any of it.]

Right now? I am as happy as Kitty with a new computer. I'm also hungry and this pasta's almost done.

[He keeps his hands busy as he finishes up with vegetable-chopping, keeping his eyes on his work. Mentions of Kitty still sting, and he doesn't want it to show. He doesn't want to tell.]

I'm quite famished as well, so that is good. This is almost finished with as well, if I could trouble you for the location of a bowl to put it all in.

[A cupboard opens and a bowl floats down. There was something, just for a split second, when she mentioned Kitty...was there something Logan hadn't told her? Something even he didn't know?]

She drains the pasta and adds the sauce, it smells perfect and she's not ruining this mood, she's just not.]

Hey, before I forget - it's Jamie's birthday today and he wanted to know if you wanted to go out for a few drinks?

[Oh, looky! More floating kitchenware. He quickly deposits the salad in the bowl, giving the greenery a good toss or two in the air. There.]

Of course, but only with the condition that we find some place that serves real beer. I'm not particular, but a man must have his lines drawn in certain areas.
